Strategy for Starting a Multiethnic Church

Galatians 3:28
For in Christ “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Followers of Christ were identified as Christians, in the early church (Acts 11:26), because there was not one dominant ethnic group or culture.

We (my wife and I) have become convinced that God has a heart for the multiethnic, multicultural church. Therefore, the vision and burden of our hearts is to be a part of this work. What a powerful witness to people a multiethnic church will have as we embrace our new identity in Christ over our cultural and ethnic identities!
A Multiethnic church . . .
- consists of people of all colors coming together to worship God . . .
through the means of prayer, evangelism, discipleship, songs, teaching, preaching and fasting, displayed through a variety of different cultural forms.
- will not have a dominant color or culture.
It forms its own unique culture made up of them all.
- is diverse.
This diversity is the strength of the church and will reach the neighborhood in which the church is located.
- practices love.
Love transcends color or culture. This is the foundation of a multiethnic church.
At the same time in a diverse church, there needs to be agreement on key principles in order to facilitate growth. The Bible, God’s Word, must be our authority and guide to the function of the church. Moreover, believers are to meet together to worship God. Ethnic groups do not merely share facilities, but meet together and share the same leadership, budget, fellowship activities…etc. Undergirding its life as a church is the commitment to love God with all that we are and to love each other as ourselves, as Christ commanded. A multiethnic church demands this kind of love and respect.
